How to Finish Better Music Faster (step 4)
How to Finish Better Music Faster (step 3)
One of the questions I get asked is:
Are you just a motivation coach or do you teach music production?
And the answer is:
NO! and NO!
Despite my well over 25,000 hours in the studio I don’t teach music production. Because creatively I know it usually does you more harm than good. The best artists I’ve worked with do not think about the “rules”.
Because they never learnt them. (I certainly didn’t)
And I don’t care much for” motivation”. Because this very common way of thinking:
1. I’ll try to get motivated…
2. Which will mean I’ll take action
…is exactly the WRONG way round. This is how you really work:
1. I’ll take action (no matter what)…
2. So I can get motivated.
Do not try to motivate yourself first. I don’t care one bit if you’re motivated. What I (and more importantly you need to) care about is that you:
…TAKE ACTION.
Consistently. Every day if you can. Without fail – even when you don’t feel like it (which if you’re a human being will be most of the time.) So how on earth do you do that? The answer is just one click away…
Here’s how to take consistent action when you’re unmotivated:

So – if you are going to accept my challenge, and make much better music heaps faster – you’re gonna have to make sure you can do one thing…
FOCUS.
And I don’t just mean being able to concentrate and not get distracted.
(Although, of course that’s one small part of it).
Because how my program members gain the (literally unbelievable) boosts in creativity, productivity and enjoyment they get every single day in front of their DAWs comes from discovering, practising and developing the 3 other forms of focus…
Master all 4? You’ll be able to move mountains.
(And make great music in record time) 😉

Here’s why little time to make music is a good thing…
Deadlines make you more creative
Creativity is the process your brain uses to overcome limitations (including time). Create a limitation and you have to be more creative to overcome it.
The best tracks come out the quickest
How often have you spent waaaay too long on a killer idea and sucked the life out of it, never to get that vibe back? For 90% of people 90% of the time the best tracks come out the quickest. And this works the other way around too. Bottom line?
If you write tracks quickly they will (usually) be better for it.
You will never have enough time.
Especially when you’re gallivanting across the four corners playing to 1000s. Learn to use little time and energy you have now and you’ll set yourself up for when that happens.
So how do you do it?
